JANESVILLE — Springfield defeated Janesville-Waldorf-Pemberton in a nonconference baseball game on Thursday.

Justin Haugo earned the win going seven innings, giving up no runs, four hits walking three and striking out five.

Branden Flock had one run scored and Tanner Vogel had a hit with an RBI for the Tigers.

Springfield (14-4) will host Redwood Valley on Monday.

New Ulm Cathedral 14,

Mankato Loyola 2

MANKATO — New Ulm Cathedral crushed Mankato Loyola in a nonconference baseball game on Thursday.

Kasey Kuck was the winning pitcher going seven innings, giving up two runs, four hits, walking one and striking out five. Kuck was 2 for 5 with a double and two RBIs.

Mark Schommer went 2 for 3 with a triple, four RBIs and three runs scored. Josh Seidl was 2 for 4 with three runs scored. Chris Knowles and Aaron Portner each added two RBIs.

Cathedral (9-8) will host Martin Luther/Granada Huntley-East Chain/Truman at 6:30 pm on Friday at Johnson Field.

MCW 7, Nicollet 1

SHERBURN — Martin County West defeated Nicollet in a Valley Conference baseball game on Thursday.

Ean Thomsen was the losing pitcher, going seven innings, giving up seven runs, 14 hits, striking out four.

Hunter Johnson went 1 for 2 with a run scored.

Nicollet (2-13) will host United South Central on Monday.

Wabasso 4, RCW 0

RENVILLE — Wabasso defeated Renville County West in a nonconference baseball game on Thursday.

Tony Franta earned the win, pitching seven innings giving up no runs, two hits, walking two and striking out five..

Nick Altermatt had a double with three stolen bases, CJ Theis added a double with an RBI and one stolen base. Jacob Plaetz had one RBI.

Wabasso (13-5) will host Red Rock Central/Westbrook-Walnut Grove on Friday.

Marshall 330

BUFFALO LAKE — New Ulm edged Marshall in a Big South Conference golf meet on Thursday.

Mason Plante of Marshall was the medalist with a score of 75.

Glavine Schugel finished with a 77 and Gunnar Cowing shot an 83.

Sleepy Eye United boys, 169, Madelia 171, Mt. Lake Area 220, LCWM INC.

Madelia girls 222, Sleepy Eye United 235, LCWM INC.

MADELIA — The Sleepy Eye United boys won the nonconference golf quadrangular on Thursday.

Madelia’s Jared Henry and Carson Wihlm were the medalist for the boys, both shooting a 39.

Mountain Lake Area was led by Ryan Pedersen who shot by a 51.

Caleb Christensen led Sleepy Eye United, shooting a 40.

Madelia’s Jude Frelich was the medalist for the girls, shooting a 53. Megan DeMaris led Sleepy Eye United, shooting a 56.

LAMBERTON — Springfield swept at the nonconference golf triangular on Thursday.

Springfield’s Maverick Winkelmann was the medalist for the boys, shooting a 40.

Springfield’s Callie Wersal was the medalist for the girls, shooting a 39.

WESTBROOK — Westbrook/Walnut Grove swept a nonconference golf meet against Wabasso on Thursday.

WWG’s Nathan Ross was the medalist for the boys, shooting a 39.

Isaac Hertling led the Wabasso boys, shooting a 45.

Redwood Valley 2

SPRINGFIELD — Sydney Krueger got the game-winning RBI after eight innings to bring Springfield past Redwood Valley 3-2 on Thursday in a nonconference softball game.

Springfield’s Kate Quesenberry was the winning pitcher. She had three strikeouts and allowed two runs, six hits and a walk.

Springfield plays in the playoffs on Tuesday.
