Steel picks up 6th straight victory

NEW ULM — Jacob Padley’s goal at the  5:14 mark of the third period capped a three-goal period for New Ulm as the Steel won their sixth straight game with a 3-2 win over Western Division leading Granite City Friday night at the New Ulm Civic Center in a NA3HL game.

Alex Egle and Luc Kreuser added the other two Steel goals. Bennett Witta,  Padley, Nicholas Campbell, Dylan Leiverman, Stephan Hermkes and Vinny Billing all added assists.

Steel goalie Nathan Siclovan had 23 saves in the game.

The Steel, who improved to 16-12-0 and five points ahead of Willmar for a playoff spot, trailed the Lumberjacks 1-0 going into the third period, scored  twice for a 2-1 lead on goals from Krueser (a power play score) and Egle.

Granite tied the game before Padley tallied the eventual game-winner.

“We were pressing a little bit,” said Padley about being down 1-0. “The second period we were buzzing them all period. We felt something good going and it came (in the third period).”

Padley said that the Steel have gained confidence in the winning streak.

“The success of the team is  all that matters at this point,” Padley said. “We rolling right now.”

Granite City pulled its goalie with 1:37 left in the game but failed to score.

The Steel host Willmar next Saturday night.
