Breezy Point North Stars beat New Ulm Steel 3-1

NEW ULM – The Breezy Point North Stars scored two power-play goals and their goalie Bronson Moore stopped 38 of 39 Steel shots as they topped the New Ulm Steel 3-1 at the New Ulm Civic Center.

Alex Mosser, who the Steel acquired in a trade from Devils Lake late Thursday, scored the lone goal for the Steel (1-3).

“We got down 2-0 and came back with a goal in the second with a goal but then we came out in the third and had some penalties called against us,” said Steel coach Jay Witta. “And then we played into their game – they wanted to play that clog, slappy style hockey and that is not how we play.”

That led to several penalites on the Steel in the final period when the North Stars scored their last goal on another power play.

It was also late in the period when Steel players Sam Sorlie and Trevor Woycke were given game misconducts and fighting penalties, which means that they both cannot play in Friday’s home game. Breezy Point’s Alex Flicek was also assessed a fighting penalty.

“We need to be more disciplined,” Witta said.
