Cougars sweep Mustangs

CM/C 3, BLHS 0

HECTOR – Cedar Mountain/Comfrey swept Buffalo Lake-Hector-Stewart 25-13, 25-11, 25-15 on Thursday in a Tomahawk Conference volleyball match.

Makenzie Kerkhoff led the Mustangs with 13 kills and five digs. Amy Jemmings added 26 set assists, seven digs and three kills. Lauren Boyle had 19 digs.

CMC will host Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop on Tuesday and BLHS will participate in the St. James Area Tournament on Saturday.

Wabasso 3, Springfield 1

SPRINGFIELD – Wabasso defeated Springfield 23-25, 25-9, 25-11, 25-23 Thursday night in a Tomahawk Conference volleyball match.

Callie Wersal had 31 set assists and McKensie Schwanke was 15-for-15 serving with an ace for Springfield. Vishe’ Rabb had 13 kills and 11 digs and Alyssa Streich had seven kills and three blocks.

Wabasso was led by Lainy Rohlik who was 17-for-18 serving with three aces, 16 digs and 41 set assists. Gina Goblirsch had two aces, 17 digs and 15 kills, and Maddy Guetter had 15 digs and 18 kills.

Springfield (8-4, 2-1) hosts New Ulm Cathedral at 7 p.m. on Tuesday. Wabasso (11-4, 2-1) plays at the Burnsville tournament on Saturday.

Mankato Loyola 3,

Nicollet 0

NICOLLET – Mankato Loyola swept Nicollet 28-26, 25-22, 29-27 on Thursday in a Valley Conference volleyball match.

Nicole Hall had 25 set assists for the Raiders. Hannah Beckius added 10 digs, Natasha Young and Lindsey Boerger each added 33 attacks and 11 kills.

Nicollet (2-5, 1-2) will play at Sibley East on Saturday.

Prep tennis

River Valley 6, New Ulm 1

SLEEPY EYE – River Valley downed New Ulm 6-1 on Thursday in a Big South Conference tennis match.

Meleah Reinhart and Jane Arnoldt earned New Ulm’s lone win at No. 1 doubles 4-6, 7-6 (7-1), 6-3.

Rose Dobie lost at No 2 singles, and Emma Maudal lost at No. 4 singles.New Ulm will host Waseca on Friday.

Prep cross-country

S/CM/C boys, girls finish 8th at JCC

JACKSON – Springfield/Cedar Mountain/Comfrey’s Mitchell Buerkle finished fifth overall in 17:52 as the S/CM/C boy’s cross-country team finished eighth at the Mankato East Invite on Thursday.

Miranda Groebner led the girls with a 13th place finish in 22:41.
