S/CM/C boys finish fifth at Windom meet

Prep Cross-Country

WINDOM – The Springfield/Cedar Mountain/Comfrey boys placed fifth and the girls placed eighth at the Windom cross-country meet on Monday.

For the boys, Mitchell Buerkle was seventh overall in 18 minutes, followed by Elijah Kirschstein (11th, 18:25), Logan Kelly (36th, 20:34), Matthew Hillesheim (65th, 24:17) and Dakotah Lumbar (73rd, 26:42) rounded out the top 5 for the Tigers.

For the girls, Miranda Groebner (16th, 22:34), Sydney Hauger (21st, 23:16), Lily McCone (31st, 24:50), Lauren Zeug (48th, 26:34), and Emma Sullivan were the top competitors for the Tigers.

Girl’s soccer

Fairmont 3, New Ulm 1

FAIRMONT – Fairmont scored two unanswered goals in the second half to defeat New Ulm 3-1 in Big South Conference girl’s soccer action on Monday.

New Ulm eighth-grader Paige Kalis scored a goal in the 30th minute of the first half and the teams were tied at halftime.

New Ulm finished with six shots on goal. New Ulm (2-5) hosts Mankato Loyola at 5 p.m. on Tuesday.

Prep volleyball

Wabasso 3, BOLD 0

WABASSO – Wabasso swept BOLD 25-19, 25-17, 25-18 in nonconference volleyball on Monday.

For Wabasso Gina Goblirsch had 16 kills and 15 digs and Maddy Guetter had 14 kills and 14 digs. Lainy Rohlik had 30 set assists and Jenna Frank had 13 digs. Alison Benz finished with 12 digs.

Wabasso (10-4, 1-1 in Tomahawk ) plays Springfield on Thursday
