WINTHROP – The Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop volleyball team is holding a special event Thursday for World Lymphoma Awareness Day during its home match against Springfield.

GFW is holding the event in support of junior Megan and senior Jen Palmer’s father, Mike of Fairfax, who has been battling lymphoma for the past year. Tiffany Rodning, of Gaylord and a 1986 graduate of Winthrop High School, is also being honored in her battle with stage-4 colon cancer.

Shirts commemorating the event will be made along with cancer awareness bracelets, Hope stickers and other fundraising events.

The Dairy Queen in Winthrop is also holding a special from 3:30 p.m. to close with 10 percent of all proceeds going toward the families.

First serve is set for 7:30 p.m. at GFW in Winthrop.
