New Ulm boys fall to Southwest Christian

Southwest Christian 3, New Ulm 1

NEW ULM – The New Ulm boy’s soccer team lost 3-1 to Southwest Christian on Saturday at the Martin Luther College soccer complex.

Wyatt Huard scored New Ulm’s lone goal off an assist from Joel Koelpin with 33 minutes left in the second half.

New Ulm (1-4) is at Marshall on Tuesday for a?Big South Conference game.

Prep volleyball

Madelia goes 0-3 at Sleepy Eye

SLEEPY EYE – Madelia lost three times at the Sleepy Eye Invitational in prep volleyball action on Saturday.

Madelia lost to Sleepy Eye 25-21, 16-25 in the first match and lost to Fairmont 25-13, 25-18 in the second match. Redwood Valley then defeated Madelia 25-22, 25-19 in the final match.

Cathedral goes 3-2 at WWG

WESTBROOK – New Ulm Cathedral went 3-2 at the Westbrook/Walnut Grove tournament on Saturday.

Jenna Helget had 75 set assists and Annie Roufs had 22 kills and 24 digs. Becca Schwarz had 17 kills and 11 block kills and Rose Hazuka had 30 kills.

Sleepy Eye goes 1-2 at home tournament

SLEEPY EYE – Sleepy Eye went 1-2 on Saturday at its own tournament.

Sleepy Eye defeated Madelia 21-25, 25-16 and lost to Redwood Valley 25-15, 25-15. It then lost to Fairmont 25-22, 25-21.

Mya Ibberson had 19 kills and Mckenzie Cselovszki had 10 kills. Jaidyn McGee finished with 10 kills and Cassidy Hoffmann had 38 set assists.

MVL goes 0-4 at West tournament

MANKATO – Minnesota Valley Lutheran went 0-4 at the Mankato West tournament on Saturday, losing to BOLD, Windom, Austin and Mankato Loyola.

Brittany Sanders had 26 set assists on the day and Hannah Biedenbender had 37 digs. Lauren Paulsen had 12 kills and Hailey Birkholz finished with 11 kills and 18 digs.

MVL hosts Maple River on Tuesday.

Football

Madelia 22, WWG 14 (Late Friday)

WESTBROOK – Madelia defeated Westbrook/Walnut Grove in District 9, South West nine-man football on Friday.

Matt Baumgartner rushed one touchdown and he had 58 yards for the game. Angel Zamora had two touchdowns, one rushing and a 75-yard punt return for a touchdown.

Madelia (1-1) hosts Mountain Lake Area on Friday.
