NEW ULM - The District 88 Board of Education today will consider approval of a $250,000 deferred maintenance project and $44,400 in capital facility projects for the 2014-2015 school year.
The deferred project is a roof replacement at Jefferson Elementary School.
The other projects include: dishwasher room ceiling replacement ($8,000 in health and safety funds), painting the gym upper walls ($3,500 in operating capital funds) and restroom updates ($25,000 in capital funds), all at the High School; sidewalk trip hazard repairs ($6,400 in capital funds) at Washington Elementary School; and sidewalk trip hazard repairs ($13,000 in capital funds) and a catwalk for boiler plant pressure tanks ($12,000 in health and safety funds), both at the main campus.
Before the list made it to the board, outgoing Facilities Director Scott Hogen presented a larger list to the Facilities Committee. The committee is recommending the minimized list.
The board is expected to formally approve Hogen's resignation as of March 7. He has accepted the position of facilities director at Mankato Public Schools.
The board will consider approving a revised school calendar for 2014-15.
The administrative team is recommending several changes to the calendar: adding one staff day in the fall for professional development work; moving professional development days to Mondays; removing two professional development dates (January and March) to make them student contact days; adding Graduation Day as May 29; and moving the date school ends from June 5 to June 3.
The board is expected to formally approve its 2014-16 school strategic plan, after drafting and then revising proposed goals over the past several months.
During this process, the board formulated the vision of "preparing all of our students to be successful in a 21st century world."
