Lemke Scores Two in Win over Northland

NEW ULM -The Martin Luther College men's soccer team moved above .500 in league play with a 2-0 win over Northland College Friday morning at Knight Field.

Ryan Lemke put the Knights on the board in the 21st minute, scoring off an assist from Jacob Shepherd to give MLC the 1-0 lead.

Lemke added the insurance goal in the 67th minute off an assist from Aaron Markgraf, giving goalkeeper Eric Hahn and the MLC defense all the cushion it would need.

Hahn stopped all six shots he faced in net for MLC to earn his second shutout of the season.

Hastings Hat Trick Leads Women to 6-1 Win

NEW ULM - The MLC women's soccer team received three goals from first-year midfielder Alex Hastings in a 6-1 win over Northland College Friday afternoon.

Jenna Maurer scored the only goal of the first half in the 11th minute, but the Knights poured on the offense in the second stanza.

Hastings scored in the 52nd minute, and Maurer quickly added her second of the day in the 55th minute to push the lead to 3-0.

The three goals from Hastings gave her six on the season, with all coming in conference play. Maurer's two goals give her a UMAC-best 10 on the season, while Bethany Schultz added an assist on one of Hastings' goals.

Hansen in Third Place After Second Round of UMAC Championship

LAKE CITY - The MLC men's golf team finished day two of the three-day UMAC Championship at the Jewel GC.

In team competition, the Knights remained in sixth place despite shaving 17 strokes off Thursday's score, and has 685 total strokes through two days.

Josh Hansen continues to be near the top of the leaderboard in the individual rankings, backing up Thursday's 76 with a Friday round of 77. He currently sits in third place and trails tournament leader Austin Snow of Bethany Lutheran by only four strokes heading into tomorrow's final round.

Joel Sonntag shot 80 on day two, cutting eight strokes off yesterday's score and tying him for 14th place. Craig Wilke also rebounded from a difficult day one to shoot 85 Friday, while Jacob Biebert rounded out the scoring for MLC with a 92.

Bethany Lutheran currently leads the tournament with a total of 631, and also has the top two individuals in the tournament. Minnesota Morris, Crown, North Central and Northwestern round out the top five.

MLC will return to the Jewel Saturdayfor the third and final round of the UMAC Championship.
