Flu shot clinics begin Tuesday

September 16, 2013
By Fritz Busch - Staff Writer , The Journal

NEW ULM - Brown County Public Health weekly flu clinics begin Tuesday, Sept. 17, by appointment, according to a public health update to be given to Brown County commissioners at their Tuesday meeting.

The public is reminded that getting a flu shot is not only to protect themselves, but also to protect others, especially the young, the elderly, and those with underlying health conditions, according to the report.

Brown County Public Health will use print, radio media and flyers to explain influenza, its symptoms, how it is spread, and how to prevent the its spread.

Commissioners will also consider:

Amendments to the 2008-2018 Brown County Comprehensive Water Management Plan. Proposed amendments range from being more active with the general public on water retention to better understand groundwater resources. By August 2018, the plan will be extensively rewritten.

Approving Julie Kloeckl and Laine Sletta to attend the Healthcare Leadership course Oct. 27 to Nov. 1, at the Center for Domestic Preparedness in Anniston, Ala. Public Health and Emergency Management officials have been invited to join emergency preparedness partners, according to the Request for Board Action (RBA).

Training, lodging, meals and transportation are covered by the Domestic Preparedness Program. The only cost to the county is the paid time that both participants will incur while they are in training.

Brown County Public Health Director Karen Moritz attended the training last year with New Ulm Medical Center and Sleepy Eye Medical Center staff and found the training "extremely beneficial." In case the Healthcare Leadership class is full, she would attend the Pandemic Planning and Preparedness session as an alternative.

The meeting starts at 9 a.m. Tuesday in the courthouse commissioner's room.
