Mankato tried to mount a threat of its own in the second inning. Gold pitcher Chase Meyer struck out three batters after yielding one hit.

Jordan Guggisberg walked and he went to second base on a wild pitch. Judd Davis hit a single that scored Guggisberg for the eventual game-winning run in the bottom of the second inning.

Mankato had its chances to score, but Gold kept Mankato at bay.

Mankato's lone run came in the sixth inning on a fielder's choice.

Brad Kunz hit an infield single, but he was thrown out when he tried to steal second base. Lee Marxen walked to have one runner on base. Meyer struck out Pat Rohlfing and a Mankato batter flied out to right field to end the game and give New Ulm Gold the win.

Meyer was the winning pitcher for New Ulm Gold. Meyer pitched seven innings, gave up one run and four hits. He struck out four batters.

Arlen Ness was the losing pitcher for Mankato.

Davis was 2-for-4 with the game-winning RBI. Kannegiesser was also 2-for-4 with two hits, a stolen base and one run scored.

In the second game, Guggisberg pitched five innings for the win.
