Irene W. (Mrs. Leo) Wenisch

Irene W. (Mrs. Leo) Wenisch, age 90, of Springfield, died on June 22, 2013, at St. John Lutheran Home in Springfield.

Service will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, June 28, at the St. John Lutheran Church in Springfield. The clergy will be Pastor Julie Smith. Interment will be at the Springfield City Cemetery.

Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. on Thursday, June 27 at the Sturm Funeral Home, Springfield Chapel, and will continue on Friday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the St. John Lutheran Church, Springfield.

Irene (Willms) Wenisch was born in Butterfield on April 20, 1923 to Willm and Minnie (Schmidt) Willms. She grew up and attended schools in Windom and Comfrey. She was united in marriage to Leo Wenisch at St. Raphael's Catholic Church on July 30, 1941, and they celebrated their 65th anniversary in July, 2006.

Irene enjoyed flowers, gardening, and spending time with her family at their lake home. Irene was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, Leah Circle, St. John Lutheran Home Auxiliary, and a past member of the American Legion Auxiliary.

Irene died on Saturday, June 22, 2013 at the age of 90 at St. John Lutheran Home.

She was survived by children, Robert (Jessie) of St. James, Doug (Sue) of Springfield, Gary of Minneapolis, and Dave (Dawn) of Ham Lake; six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; sisters, Helen Valentien and Dorothy Quiring, and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Leo in 2006; son, Dean; brothers, Louie (Ethel) Willms, George (Marie) Willms, John Willms; sisters, Emma (John) Sabolik, Ella (Rex) Sayre; brothers-in-law, Henry Quiring and Dick Valentien; and great-grandson Matthew Wenisch.
