Laffen leads All-Area girls golf

Lauren Laffen, Fr,

Sleepy Eye

Laffen qualified for her second State Class A golf tournament (first one as an individual) and she ended up finishing second in the Class A meet with a two-day score of 167.

She was also a vital part of the 2012 team which placed third in the State Class A Golf Touranment. Laffen earned her second All-Conference Team selection and finished the year with an average score of 92. Lauren earned All Journal honors last season and this year also was ranked inside the Top 10 of the Minnesota State Golf Coaches Assocation State rankings for Class A.

Carly Schmalz, Sr., BLHS

Schmalz qualified for the state meet for the third time in her career. She finished sixth at the Class A State meet with a 174 in the two-day event.

She was the team MVP for the fourth time and was the Tomahawk Conference medalist for the second time in her career.

She was the All-Journal Girls Golfer of the Year last year and will golf at William Penn University next year.

Emily Curtis, Sr.,

Sleepy Eye

Curtis qualified for her third State Golf Tournament where she finished 10th with a two-day score of 177. Last year, she was the leading force on the third-place team in the State.

Curtis ended her golf career as a four-time All Conference Selection and has been a three-time All-Journal Selection. For the season she averaged 93 and finished inside the Top 10 for the State Class A scoring averages according to the Minnesota State Golf Coaches Association rankings.

Corinne McKeeth, So., New Ulm

McKeeth averaged a 46 over nine holes and was a 2012 All-Journal selection. She missed the state tournament by one stroke the last two years and is a three-time All-South Central Conference selection.

Shelby Schultz, Sr., Springfield

Schultz averaged a 100 over 18 holes and was a four-year competitor for the Tigers. She qualified for the state meet this past year, shooting a 95 at the Section 3A meet in Marshall. She shot a 193 at the state meet this year, good enough to tie for 27th.

Brooke Dummer, So., New Ulm Cathedral

Dummer qualified for the Class A State meet, where she finished tied for 40th with a two-day score of 200. Dummer averaged a 47 on the season and her season low was 44 on nine holes and 94 on 18 holes. She placed 11th in the Tomahawk Conference.
