MLC men's tennis falls 7-2 to Northwestern, women lose 9-0

NEW ULM - The Martin Luther College men's tennis team lost 7-2 to Northwestern Tuesday in Upper Midwest Athletic Conference action.

The Knights took one of the three doubles matches, as the team of Marty Johnston and Tom Gorzalski won the number three doubles match by the score of 8-6. The other two teams played close matches, but fell just short by the scores of 9-7 and 8-6.

The Eagles took control in singles, winning five of the six matches in straight sets. Micah Koelpin was the only MLC player to win his match, winning the number six singles contest in straight sets 6-0 and 6-4.

MLC will return to the courts on Thursday, when it hosts North Central.

MLC Women Lose to NWC

NEW ULM - The MLC women's tennis team lost 9-0 to Northwestern Tuesday afternoon in UMAC action.

The Knights struggled to an 0-3 start in doubles, losing the three matches by the scores of 8-0, 8-2 and 8-3.

In singles, the Eagles took five of the six matches in straight sets, with the Charis Goelzer pushing her number five singles match to a third set before losing in the tiebreaker by the scores of 2-6, 6-2 and 10-7.

MLC will return to the courts on Thursday when it hosts North Central.
