HANSKA - A fund-raiser for the Minnesota Ovarian Cancer Alliance (MOCA)? will take place from 9:30 to 11 a.m., Saturday, at Nora Unitarian Church in Hanska.
Julie Sellner a seven-year ovarian cancer survivor, is organizing the event. "Eggs for Ovaries " features a a free-will offering brunch.
In addition to raising money, Sellner raises awareness of the disease, for which there is no test. More than 21,000 women are diagnosed with ovarian cancer in the United States each year.
MOCA is a Minnesota-based non-profit dedicated to raising awareness and funding research needed to detect ovarian cancer early and treat it properly.
Calling All Angels originally started from one art auction benefit in the metro area in 2005. Since then, the campaign has grown to an organized statewide effort with several events each February and March.
Symptoms of ovarian cancer include bloating, pelvic or abdominal pain, urinary symptoms and difficulty eating. Specialists suggest consulting a doctor if symptoms occur almost daily for more than a few weeks.
