No plowing hurts business

March 6, 2013
The Journal

To the editor:

The City of Sleepy Eye should be ashamed. Today after the snow the business district in Sleepy Eye was snowed in. The state plowed the center and the snow piled up near the cars parked on Main Street, which meant the snow was 12 to 18 inched deep, eight to ten feet from the curb. The cars stopped at the businesses were getting stuck. The customers were canceling their appointments.

The City Manger told the business owner sorry for the inconvenience. But the businesses are losing money. They are told NO PARKING signs will go up after midnight. That does not make up for a day of lost customers.

The street department does a good job plowing snow but you would think Main Street should be first. The alleys are plowed before 8 a.m., Main Street has to wait 24 hours. If you had a problem with parking on Main Street call the City Manger, otherwise nothing will change.
