PREP BOYS' BASKETBALL ROUNDUP: Tigers prevail against Indians in overtime

Springfield 83, Sleepy Eye 74 (OT)

SPRINGFIELD - The Springfield boys' basketball team hit its stride at just the right time in Monday's Tomahawk Conference game against Sleepy Eye.

After regulation ended with the game tied at 68-68, the Tigers dominated the overtime period by a 15-6 score to earn the victory and end their regular season with an 18-6 record.

Springfield was led by Christopher Kretsch in the contest with 20 points. Tyler Vogel added 17 points, Cole Milbrath had 14 points and Isaac Kirschstein contributed 13 points.

Brandon Polesky paced the Indians with 23 points, with Jake Trebesch adding 11 points and Tyler Netzke contributing 10 points.

The Tigers will host Truman/Martin Luther at 7 p.m. Monday in their Section 2A tournament opener.

Sleepy Eye (9-15) will host Minnesota Valley Lutheran Thursday for a Section 2A play-in game.

T/ML 78, Cathedral 63

NEW?ULM - New Ulm Cathedral's Jake Stadick had a game-high 20 points, but Truman/Martin Luther received enough balanced scoring to come away with the victory in Monday's non-conference boys' basketball contest.

T/ML was led by Alex Weihe with 19 points. Damarko Thomas had 17 points, Chandler Greier added 15 points and Cade Ekstrom finished with 11 points.

The Greyhounds received 12 points from Jeff Osborne and 10 points from Jacob Gangelhoff.

Cathedral (4-18) will play at Cleveland on Thursday in its Section 2A tournament opener.

St. Peter 72, Sibley East 54

ARLINGTON - Sibley East's Tyler Bates made a valiant attempt to counteract the strong performance of St. Peter's Peter Kruize in Monday's game between the two teams, but in the end Kruize's Saints prevailed for a non-conference boys' basketball victory.

Kruize had a game-high 27 points in the contest and also added a team-best eight rebounds. The team's next leading scorer was Josh Peymann with 10 points.

Bates finished with a double-double of 21 points and 12 rebounds. Adding top contributions for the Wolverines were Sam Harrison (10 points), Brody Rodning (eight points) and Max Grabow (seven points).

Sibley East (12-11) will host New Ulm on Thursday.

Windom 63, CM/C 59

COMFREY -?Windom topped Cedar Mountain/Comfrey in a non-conference boys' basketball game on Monday.

CM/C was led by Sam Pendleton with 19 points, Henry Pendleton with 16 points and Ryan Pendleton with 11 points.

The Eagles were paced by Nathan Remmers with 22 points.

CM/C (18-6) will open Section 2A play on Monday night in Morgan.
