NEW ULM - A 15-year-old male Sleepy Eye student was charged with a felony terroristic threat count in a closed hearing Monday in Brown County District Court.

The suspect was ordered to return to juvenile detention. His next Brown County District Court appearance was set for 4:15 p.m., Monday, Jan. 14.

Sleepy Eye Police arrested a male juvenile around noon on Saturday for allegedly making school shooting threats on Facebook.

Police were notified on Friday that shooting threats had been posted on a Facebook page. The threats were directed at several area schools, investigators said in a press release Saturday.

Sleepy Eye Police investigated the threats. Evidence was reviewed with the Brown County Attorney's Office before the suspect was arrested.

The suspect was transported by the Sleepy Eye Police Department to the Prairie Lakes Detention Center in Willmar.

Parents of New Ulm and Sleepy Eye students were alerted of the incident via electronic messages on Saturday. Area schools opened as usual on Monday, with extra security precautions in place.
