SLEEPY EYE - A fire destroyed a dairy barn and the livestock inside Wednesday at a farm in rural Sleepy Eye.

Officials at the scene estimated the call for the fire at 22492 Heritage Road came around 1:30 p.m. The entire dairy barn was destroyed in the fire, and firefighters battled the blaze until at least 4:30 p.m. Officials say the farm's owners, Ben and Jenny Fischer, reported losing approximately 20 to 25 cows, 20 embryos and an unknown number of calves and other equipment. The cause of the fire has not yet been released.

Although no serious injuries were reported, the owners and their son were taken to a hospital to be checked out for minor issues.
