Thanks to ISD 88 Vote Yes committee

November 7, 2012
The Journal

As this editorial is being written, the polls are still open and the votes await accounting. We don't know who is going to be president for the next four years, or what the decision is on Minnesota's two constitutional amendments. We don't know if the District 88 tax levy referendum has passed, though we hope it has.

Whether it has passed or not, we want to thank the ISD 88 Vote Yes campaign committee which came together to support the levy and to push for its approval.

We have rarely seen a campaign as organized and vigorous for a local issue. It is a recognition of the importance of the school district to the community and the dire consequences that await the community if the district has to continue to whittle away at programs and increase class sizes.

The campaign committee has mobilized many community groups, especially the business community. It is gratifying to see so many business people and the New Ulm Chamber of Commerce willing to take a stand on this important issue. They recognize that the prosperity and growth of the community depends in large part to having a strong public school system.

Thanks again to the committee, and we hope their efforts are successful.
