SLEEPY EYE - Minnesota Valley Lutheran's cross country teams both took fourth place at the St. Mary's/Sleepy Eye/New Ulm Cathedral meet on Thursday.
Talia Otto led the way for the girls, coming in fourth place with a time of 16:50. Otto was followed by Cheyenne Bjorklund (17:46), Alexa Diersen (19:27, 26th), Maria Muske (19:27, 27th), and Emma Wendorf (20:42, 37th). The place Bjorklund finished in was not available.
The boys were led by Peter Finken, who took ninth place with a time of 18:55. He was followed by Sam Bernau (29th), Caleb Grefe (30th), Jacob Grefe (33rd), and Zack Scharlemann (35th).
Sibley East also ran and took fifth place. The Wolverines were led by Maren Miner, who finished in ninth place for the girls in 17:33, and Sam Theis led the boys with a fifth-place finish of 18:41.
The SM/SE/NUC boys and girls took sixth place. Mary Joyce was the top finisher for the girls in 18th place with a time of 18:44. Joyce was followed by Jenny Lax (18th, 18:44), Megan DeMaris (30th, 19:38), and Angie Kiecker (36th, 20:35).
The Knights' boys were led by Stephen Joyce, who finished 18th with a time of 19:43. Joyce was followed by Nick DeMaris (22nd, 20:01), Brandon Roiger (24th, 20:06), Zach Long (51st, 22:33), and Ezra Krzmarzick (64th, 24:08)
MVL and SM/SE/NUC both run again next Thursday at the Madelia meet.
