Small businesses still feel the pinch

One thing that needs to be re-iterated: too much focus on bailing out "irreplaceable" big boys. Free enterprise 101-for every big boy that goes down, there's at least 10 better-run, more motivated companies ready to jump in and fill their spot. Like they said, get the heck out of the way and let businesses fail & grow - that's how it works. One business fails, another business fills the void if there is a void.

On the brighter side, the National Federation of Independent Business also reported in May that 47% of small business owners hired or tried to hire in the last three months, and the Small Business Optimism Index rose 2.3 points to 94.4 - the second highest level since December 2007 when the recessions began. 8 of the 10 factors rated by the index improved. The highest increases were in "Expect the economy to improve" and "Now is a good time to expand".
