While I agree that a $3,000 water bill is not an oversight. It is obvious that the previous city clerk did a horrible job, but still got regular raises over what other city employee's recieved. Many residents pay their bill in person and had no idea they had a balance in spite of asking what they owed. Maybe a few less beers with the mayor in the future will help. It's time to get rid of a few city leaders because they have no idea how to lead. Drink your beer and leave city business to sober folks.

It is one thing to not pay a bill because you didn't get a reminder, assuming that you just simply forgot. Not paying your water bill month after month for over 5 years is inexcusable. She should voluntarily pay interest.

Aside from that, WHY wasn't her water shut off years ago?

Next they will go to the county and ask for money to pay this bill......who did they think was paying the bill each month if they weren't?

I wonder how many of the ppl that have outstanding water bills have cable, Internet, cell phones etc.! Give up the extras and you'd have money to pay the necessary items in life!

This lady has no reason to complain when her husband is on the Gibbon City Council. He could have easily asked the city clerk what was going on. Perhaps if he did ask why the past due amount amount was not on the bill, this problem could have been corrected before it hurt so many people in the city. As I wrote yesterday, this man needs to either apologize or resign.

"We never got a past due (water) bill or cut-off notice until last month, so I decided to wait (since 2007) and see how it goes,"
