TURBO75, the NRA did give a hoot but were met with closed ears when it came to the discussion regarding the issue of mental illness - a disease where we have spent millions and can't seem to get our hands around the recognition, diagnosis or the control in treating such.

The only way "universal" background checks would go anywhere is if there was a guarantee written into the bill that the records would not be kept. i.e. No Registration.

HIPPA type laws would also have to be changed in order for these checks to be worth a hoot anyway.

The Hilstrom bill is cosponsored by over half the members of the House. It's got bipartisan support. It would pass in a heartbeat if it hit the floor. Why would the committee chair want to hold it up?

Good luck trying to get it passed, 20 dead kindergarten kids and the NRA didn't flinch.
