Energy policy change stuck in Senate

To the editor:

An article in the 12/7/20 New York Times reports on a study by European scientists which showed that November 2020 was the hottest November on record. The earth is continuing to become warmer because of human induced climate change.

If you really do not want to change from a fossil fuel energy system, it is easy to create excuses not to do so. Converting to a renewable energy system is the only effective way to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. We need to rejoin the Paris Climate Accord and work with other countries to reduce CO2 emissions and assist poorer countries to do so.

The U,S Congress is controlled by lobbyists for large corporations and billionaires, such as Charles Koch, who supply the money for the politicians’ re-election campaigns and PACs.

Mr. Jentges knows that nothing would pass the U.S. Senate unless the fossil fuel corporations and associated billionaires approved it.
