Why the Red Kettle is important

To the editor:

You will be seeing red kettles from now until Christmas and I hope you will consider dropping coins and currency into them. Did you know that most of the money raised in the kettles stays right here in Brown County to support many important programs? Without your donation, United Way wouldn’t receive the 500 school backpacks from Salvation Army that then gets filled with school supplies. Without your donation, vouchers that are provided by the police department and Brown County Human Services wouldn’t get to folks in our county to help them get through a really tough spot in their life. This money means that we support the friends, families and coworkers in Brown County who need a little help through the combined efforts of Salvation Army and United Way of Brown County. A big thank you to the volunteer coordinator and bell ringers who make this program possible. A little bit goes a long way and your gift to the kettle shows you care about your community during this holiday season.
