Eagles thankful for support

To the editor:

The players and coaching staff of the New Ulm Eagles Girls basketball team would like to thank the community and students and staff of ISD 88 for the tremendous support given to our team during this past season. To play in front of the large and enthusiastic crowds we had at our games was an inspiration for and greatly appreciated by all of us. Though we fell short of our ultimate goal — to play in the State Tournament — we are very proud of what our program has become: a competitive and exciting team that won 23 games this season and won the Big South East Conference title for the first time since 1987. Our B squad also won 23 games, and our C squad won 18. Our hope is that our recent successes, coupled with the incredible fan support we have received, will encourage more young girls from our community to play the game of basketball, and motivate those who already play to work even harder to make our program great. Much like our softball and hockey teams have been doing for years, we want to build a winning tradition and a program that the people of New Ulm will be proud to call their own.

Special thanks go to Activities Director Troy Guentzel, trainer Scott Mangen, scoreboard operator Kevin Kluis, all ISD 88 staff who took a turn doing official book, and Rob Bute for all the behind the scenes details and duties he so meticulously took care of.

But our biggest thanks goes to the Squadron: the best student section in The Big South.

See you next season.

Dan Reinhart, head coach

Brian Batt, assistant coach

Dan Horsmon, B Squad coach
