Good news to report

Newspapers have to report so much bad, upsetting news that the occasional heart-warmer comes as a welcome pleasure.

The good news this week was not all from Thailand, where rescuers on Tuesday completed rescue of members of a boys’ soccer team who had been trapped in a cave. We had a miracle right here in the United States, too.

In case you missed it, the story came from Montana, where a clearly disturbed man told authorities he had left a baby out in the woods. They took him seriously — we know of no instance involving a child that was otherwise — and began searching.

They found the 5-month-old infant, clad only in a wet “onesie,” lying face-down in the dirt under a pile of sticks and other debris. He had been there at least nine hours. The temperature was 46 degrees.

He will be fine, according to the local sheriff’s office. “This is what we call a miracle,” the sheriff’s office stated in a press release.

Indeed. Bless all involved in saving the baby — and all in our area who would have done exactly the same thing.
