Thumbs Up/Down

Anne Earl Day

Thumbs Up: Congratulations to Anne Earl, who was honored on Thursday at the Brown County Historical Society’s annual meeting. Earl is one of those “unsung” heroes, doing work behind the scenes at the BCHS museum, serving on the board and doing what needs to be done, especially when it comes to writing grant applications for funds that keep the musuem going.

So we’re sure she was surprised when Mayor Robert Beussman proclaimed it Anne Earl Day during the BCHS annual meeting Thursday. It is a well-deserved honor.

Football tournament

Thumbs Up: Two area football teams rose to the top of the Minnesota State High School Section 3A playoff bracket. On Friday, Wabasso, undefeated this year, handed New Ulm Cathedral a 48-6 loss in the Section 3A finals and will advance to the Class A State Tournament. Congratulations to the Rabbits, who deserve their success this year.

Cathedral can take pride in their season as well. Two of their three losses this year were to Wabasso. Their 8-3 record is one many schools would love to have.

Congratulations to all the athletes competing this fall season.

Chamber exec

Thumbs Up: New Ulm Area Chamber of Commerce President Audra Shaneman will be serving now on the Minnesota Chamber of Commerce board of directors. She will be representing Chamber of Commerce executives around the state on the board.

Congratulations to Shaneman. She has been doing a great job with the local Chamber since her arrival here, and we’re sure she will have a positive impact on the Minnesota Chamber’s activities as well.

Business of the Year

Thumbs Up: Congratulations as well to the New Ulm Medical Center, which has been selected by the Chamber of Commerce as the New Ulm Business of the Year for 2017.

This is certainly a well-run, successful business that has a great impact on New Ulm and the area – on the health and well-being of the people it serves, on the economy through all the people it employs and through the leadership its many employees provide throughout the community.

We hope everyone will wish them well as they celebrate on Nov. 14 at the Business of the Year banquet at the New Ulm Event Center.
