Relay for Life

THUMBS UP: The Brown County Relay for Life started last night and concluded early this morning. We are sure it will be another successful fundraiser for the American Cancer Society, thanks to the hard work of all the Relay teams.

We salute all who put in the work, and all who came to support their efforts.

Fire Depts. at ready

THUMBS UP: It has been an unusual week for fire departments in the area. Three fire calls were handled by Comfrey (an abandoned farmhouse), Sleepy Eye (a chemical fire at Mathiowetz Construction in Leavenworth) and Lafayette (an electrical fire in a home near Lafayette that displaced a local family).

All were handled quickly and professionally by the volunteer departments who responded. While we hope their services won’t be needed again for quite a while, it’s good to know that they are there, trained, equipped and ready to go when the need arises.

Health Care flop

THUMBS DOWN: Senate Republicans were unable this week to pass even a “skinny” health care repeal plan as a sop to conservative voters back home. It is now time for everyone in Congress to take a breath and start working together on a bipartisan plan to fix what’s wrong with Obamacare
