Obama’s invitation to immigrants

President Barack Obama has an interesting way of dealing with about 11 million illegal immigrants in the United States: Simply declare about half of them are not illegal.

In the process, Obama has issued an open invitation to millions more people to come here illegally. He will do little or nothing to stop them, if history is any guide.

Illegal immigration is a major concern of many Americans. Conservatives in Congress who have suggested reforms – led by stronger border security – have been ridiculed by Obama and other liberals. Nothing has been done about their suggestions.

Now, as he revealed in a nationally televised speech Thursday night, Obama is acting on his own. He claims he is doing that because Congress failed to enact immigration reform measures. He hopes Americans will not have noticed conservative lawmakers did propose changes, but were rejected by the White House and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev.

Obama plans to issue orders that will have the effect of suspending enforcement of immigration law against about 5 million people in the U.S. illegally. He has defied Congress to stop him.

What message does that send to people in Central and South America who have been thinking about sneaking into this country? Simple:?Come on in. There is an excellent chance little will be done to stop you and an even better prospect that once here, you will be allowed to stay.

As Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., warned Thursday, that will mean a repeat of the horrors that occurred earlier this year, when thousands of children, often alone, entered the United States illegally. Many died in their attempts. Others were victimized by Mexican criminals.

Obama’s action pretends much of the illegal immigration problem does not exist. Congress should find a way to stop him.
