Lone wolf terrorists

Canada is experiencing a disturbing new trend in terrorism – the lone-wolf terrorist, acting alone but with the encouragement of Islamic terror groups on the other side of the world. This week two Canadian soldiers were targeted and killed by lone individuals – one was run over with a car, the other shot to death as he stood guard at Canada’s war memorial.

Unlike President Barack Obama, who is reluctant to put the words “Islamic” and “terrorist” together, Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper wasted no time declaring these deaths terrorist attacks.

Cpl. Nathan Cirillo was gunned down at point-blank range by a 32-year-old Michael Zehaf-Bibeau, who early reports said had recently converted to Islam, and had his passport revoked because he wanted to fly to Syria to fight with ISIS.

The Islamic State has been successful recently in recruiting young men from Western countries with online propaganda. Now they have been encouraging those who can’t join them to carry out attacks wherever they can, right where they are. That apparently is what has happened in Canada, and could happen here in the U.S., if it hasn’t already happened.

The U.S. needs to be ready, and the first step it to acknowledge that these loners are just as much a part of the terror groups as those staying in the Middle East.
