New broom needed for VA

The problems that are being uncovered in the Veterans Administration are symptoms of a system that is riddled with ineffectiveness and mismanagement. In order to solve these problems, the Obama administration must get at the basic problems, and install someone who will rebuild the whole culture in the VA.

The VA needs a new leader. Veterans Affairs Secretary Eric Shinseki has had six years on the job and has done nothing to create an effective, responsive department. We doubt he is going to be able to turn this around.

It’s time for Shinseki to get out of the way, for the good of the department and the veterans it is supposed to serve. Obama should demand the secretary’s resignation, and replace him with a gung-ho, service oriented secretary who will shake up the department from top to bottom. If Shinseki will not go willingly, he should be removed.

It is not a matter of politics, it is a matter of doing right by our veterans and delivering the services that have been promised to them.
