The blame game

President Barack Obama is certainly no stranger to the “blame game.” He spent his first term blaming his administration’s struggles in dealing with economic issues on the Bush Administration.

So it is ironic that he is now the subject of the blame game. Republican leaders like House Speaker John Boehner, who want to pass immigration reform but can’t line up the Republican votes they need, said last week it is Obama’s fault. Republicans won’t vote for immigration reform, they said, because Obama can’t be trusted to enforce the law they pass.

We suppose can’t be blamed for feeling that way, since Obama made the point in his State of the Union address that he would do what he could, through administrative action, to accomplish his goals on a number of issues, whether Congress cooperates or not.

Still, Republicans shouldn’t have a problem trusting Obama on immigration. The Obama administration has deported 2 million undocumented immigrants, far more than any other president.

Republicans should do what they think is right on immigration. If they really want to pass immigration reform, they should do it. Playing the blame game on the issue is just playing politics.
