Sveine shares mayoral qualities

New Ulm’s newest mayor, Terry Sveine, was appointed by the New Ulm City Council on Tuesday to fill the vacancy created by the resignation of Robert Beussman.

Sveine shares many of the qualities possessed by past mayors, qualities that will help him represent the city well.

First, he has a deep, lifelong love of the city. This love is evidenced by his willingness in the past to work for groups and organizations dedicated to its betterment, including the New Ulm Area Chamber of Commerce, and he has volunteered to serve on various commissions.

His love is also shown in his delving deep into the city’s history. He has protrayed various past citizens for the Brown County Historical Society, and presented programs on what it was like living in the city in the past.

Past mayors have shared the ability to represent the city on various commissions and coalitions. Sveine certainly has the energy for that, along with the knowledge of what the city needs.

Past mayors have been the welcoming face for many of our notable visitors, and anyone who has met Sveine knows he is well suited for this.

Sveine knows a lot of people in town and will use those connections to find good people to serve on various committees and commissions.

All in all, Sveine is a good choice for the job of Mayor of New Ulm. We wish him success.
