Lyle was born on June 11, 1940, to Clifford and Elsie (Rewitzer) Hames in New Ulm, MN. He graduated from New Ulm High School in 1959.

He worked in management for the FW Woolworth Corporation for twenty-one years and went on to own two hardware stores.

Lyle is survived by his wife Judith; his children Valerie (Mark) O’Brien of Orlando, Florida, Kevin (Jennifer) Hames of Sacramento, California, and Brent (Susan) Hames of Minneapolis, Minnesota; 4 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; sister Mona Nelsen; and many nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by parents Clifford and Elsie Hames; brothers Jerome, James Roger; and sister Jeanette LoScalzo.
