Larry was born to LaVerne Evelyn (Forbrook) Fehlman and Orville Marvin Fehlman on September 8, 1956, in New Ulm, MN. He was baptized in September 1956 at St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in New Ulm, MN. He was confirmed in the Lutheran faith on April 4, 1971 at St. Paul’s, where he remained a faithful member for the rest of his life. He attended New Ulm High School and graduated in 1975 before attending Commercial College in Mankato, studying accounting. Larry worked for many years as an accountant at New Ulm Ford Tractor, and more recently at New Ulm Cash Wise Foods. He was a very dedicated employee and took great pride in his work. He was a devoted caretaker for his mother LaVerne for several years until her passing.
The most important thing to Larry besides his faith was his family. Larry cherished his sisters and his many nieces and nephews and never missed a birthday party. He was a jovial presence at every holiday or event, no matter how small. He loved playing board games with his nieces and nephews, and doing puzzles. Larry also loved driving and happily volunteered to drive his family members to different events, birthday parties, and baseball games. He was never lost; he just sometimes had to drive around for a little while.
Larry loved Major League Baseball, especially the Twins. He took several baseball bus tours, attending games across the country. On those trips he met a dear friend, Tony Ulmen, of North Mankato. They frequently traveled together, and had planned to go on another baseball bus tour in August of this year. One of Larry’s proudest accomplishments was that he had attended a game in every MLB stadium in the US. He was also devoted to the New Ulm Brewers baseball team.
Larry was preceded in death by his parents, LaVerne and Orville Fehlman, as well as his brothers-in-law: Donald Brandes and Gerald Brandes. Larry is survived by his sisters, Joyce Brandes and Judy Brandes, and his nieces and nephews: Brenda (Seth) Smiley, Brian (Heidi) Brandes, Lonnie Brandes, Kelli (Kent) Lindell, Lanae (Rob) Walker, Kristi (Shaun) Cooper, Kari Brandes, Lisa (Patrick) Bissen, and Leslie (Jennifer) Brandes. He is also survived by many grand nieces and nephews.
Larry will be dearly missed by his family, friends, and the congregation at St. Paul’s.
In lieu of flowers, memorials preferred.
