NEW ULM — Ernest “Ernie” Tauer, age 86 of New Ulm passed away on Monday, December 13, 2021 at the New Ulm Medical Center.

Mass of Christian burial will be at 11 am on Thursday, December 16, 2021 at the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity. Burial will follow in the New Ulm Catholic Cemetery where the New Ulm Area Comrades of Valor Honor Guard will provide full military honors.

Visitation be from 9-11 am on Thursday, December 16, 2021 at the church.

Ernie is survived by his brother, Donald “Sep” Tauer of New Ulm; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Curt (Jo) Tauer, Erwin (Angie) Tauer, Ferdinand “Fritz” Tauer; his sister, Valeria (Ray) Schanus; and niece, Patricia Thoms.

Ernest Frank Tauer was born February 1, 1935 in Lake Hanska Township to Frank and Ella (Reinarts) Tauer. He attended country school in District #75 school near Hanska and the Holy Trinity Catholic school. Growing up, Ernie helped his parents on their family farm. He then dedicated 6 years to the Army Reserve, where he spent time at Fort Leonard Wood in Missouri, Fort McCoy in Wisconsin, and Camp Guernsey in Wyoming. After returning home, Ernie worked for Schanus Plumbing and Heating then Bee-Line Wheel and Frame. He was with Bee-Line for over 40 years; 29 years as part owner with his brothers, until retiring in 2000. Ernie enjoyed traveling, fishing, playing cards and watching the Minnesota Twins and Vikings. Ernie was a member of the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity and a life member of the American Legion Seifert-Bianchi Post 132 in New Ulm. Blessed be his memory.
