Richard ‘Rocky’ Denton Lane

NEW ULM — Richard “Rocky” Denton Lane, age 88 of New Ulm passed away peacefully on Friday, November 26, 2021 at his home in New Ulm, with his wife by his side.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, December 3, 2021 at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in New Ulm with Pastor Kathy Ulland-Klinkner officiating. Burial will follow in the New Ulm City Cemetery. The Comrades of Valor will provide Military Honors at the cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. on Thursday, December 2, 2021 at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home – North Chapel in New Ulm, and will continue one hour prior to the funeral service on Friday at the church.

Rocky is survived by his wife, Diane Lane of New Ulm; children, Deb Jones, Alan Lane, John (Rhiannon) Schroeder, Tanya (Tim) Leskey, Tamara (Chris Kliner) Schroeder and Nicole Shroeder; grandchildren, Jeremy and Stacy; great-grandchildren, Anika, Alex, Hannah, Lauren, Brayden, Ashlynn, Hunter, Gavyn, Logan and Gage; brother, Floyd Drill; sisters-in-law, MaryLou Lane, Lois Drill and Betty Drill; brother-in-law, Larry Konakowitz; his dog, Cricket; many other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Florence; his son, Jeffrey Lane; his brothers, Ronny Lane, Darwin Drill, Roger Drill, Wally Drill, Denny Drill and Harvey Drill; his sisters, Joyce Engels, Carol Konakowitz and Sharon Drill; and his dog, Queenie.

Richard Denton Lane was born May 9, 1933 in Yankton, SD to Audrey Nelson. His family moved to New Ulm where he graduated from New Ulm High School. After high school, Rocky joined the US Navy, where he served in the Korean War in 1955. He served our country for 20 years, until retiring in 1984. Rocky was united in marriage to Diane Kastner on June 20, 1998 at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in New Ulm. Throughout his life, Rocky worked for M&R Paving, Wallner Construction, and the City of Mankato. As a proud veteran, Rocky was a member of the DAV, New Ulm American Legion, New Ulm VFW, Comrades of Valor, Sleepy Eye Sportsmen’s Club, St. Peter Last Man Club, and Vietnam Veterans of America in Mankato. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, car rides, and watching the deer in the backyard of his home. Rocky will be missed by all who knew him. Blessed be his memory.
