He was preceded in death by his parents; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Harry and Clara Macho; brother, Ken Spoon; brother-in-law, Gerald Stolt; and brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Veldon and Elaine Thiem.

Richard Charles Spoon was born on November 14, 1937 in New Ulm to Russell & Eleanor (Zimmerman) Spoon. He grew up in rural Courtland, attended Immanuel Lutheran grade school and graduated from Nicollet High School in 1955. Richard was united in marriage to Jane Macho on June 22, 1963 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in rural Courtland. They resided in New Ulm where they raised their daughters. He worked for Havemeier and Spaeth Transport, later called Star Bulk Transport, from October 1962 to March 1988 when he had to retire due to developing limitations from Multiple Sclerosis. Richard enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, listening to polka music, watching the Minnesota Twins and Vikings, traveling, playing sheepshead, fishing and deer hunting. He loved his grandchildren and enjoyed spending time with them, planning special outings, and watching them grow. He and Jane could often be seen sitting outside in the garage visiting with friends as they stopped by.

Richard had joy in the simple pleasures of life. Richard’s joy was a fruit of his faith in Jesus. Through faith in Jesus, Richard has received the crown of life promised to God’s people. His body will be laid to rest on November 15, 2021. On the Last Day, Richard’s body will be raised to glory and he will “walk before the Lord in the land of the living (Psalm 116:9).”
