Gerlinde “Linda” Meidl

Gerlinde “Linda” Meidl, age 74, died Sunday, September 19, at North Memorial Hospital in Minneapolis. Linda was born on December 8, 1946, in Irmenach, Germany. She is survived by

her son, Paul David Meidl Jr. of New Um and her daughter, Julie Ann (Tom) Carlson of Elk River, grandson Justin Gagnon, and Dieter; brother Rudy (Ute) Herberts, and sister Marianne Gerhard from Germany, her many nieces and nephews, friends and awesome neighbors. She was preceded in death by her parents, Fritz and Johanna Herberts and her goddaughter, Heike Kolbl.

At the age of 19, Linda moved to New Ulm where she spent the rest of her life. Her two children were her greatest joy; they loved their mother and will truly miss her. Linda enjoyed her many trips flying back to Germany with her family to visit her relatives and friends. She loved traveling to Elk River to spend weekends with her daughter.

Linda liked to cook and bake, particularly baking many, many kinds of Christmas cookies and endless loaves of zucchini bread. She enjoyed decorating her home for all of the holidays, especially Christmas, and loved to give silly Christmas gifts to everyone. She liked watching NASCAR and football games. Her favorite football team, unfortunately, was the Green Bay Packers!

Linda’s friends all knew she liked to talk and could start a conversation with anyone. She never lost her charming German accent. Her smile would light up a room and just make everyone feel good.

Her family will hold a private gathering to celebrate her life. Part of her will live on through the gift of the donation of her eyes. Her children will honor their mother by taking her ashes to Germany. A tiny piece of Linda will always be in Germany, the country she loved and called her home. Blessed be her memory.
