NEW ULM — Barbara Clyne, 82, of New Ulm died Wednesday, March 17, 2021 at Abbott-Northwestern Hospital in Minneapolis.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 11 a.m. Monday, March 22, 2021 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in New Ulm. Burial will follow in the New Ulm City Cemetery.

Visitation will be 1-3 p.m. Sunday and 9-10:30 a.m. Monday at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home SOUTH CHAPEL in New Ulm.

Barb is survived by her son, Brian (Dawn) Clyne of Searles; grandsons, Brenton (Chelsea) Clyne of Cottage Grove, Bradley (Megan) Clyne of Minneapolis; her grandsons Chaysen and Cooper; and a sister, Karen (Jerry) Winters of Mankato.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her brothers, Willard, Richard and Gary Portner; and a brother Eugene in infancy.

Barbara Elizabeth Portner was born Sept. 4, 1938 in Sleepy Eye to Arthur and Clara (Seidl) Portner. She attended Lafayette Schools. Barb was united in marriage to James Clyne on September 27, 1958 at the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity in New Ulm. She was employed at New Ulm Telecom as a Switch Board Operator and then a Customer Support Representative Supervisor for 45 years before retiring. Barb was known to many for her generosity, and loving demeanor.

She was a true farm girl at heart and enjoyed working with her hands. Her hobbies included making rag rugs, embroidering dish towels, fishing and volunteering at the Clothing Depot and Red Cross. Her true enjoyment was spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She loved watching sports and especially cheering on the Twins.
