NEW ULM — Darwin “Doc” Hohenstein, 81, of New Ulm passed away peacefully at his home on Friday, Feb. 26, 2021 after a courageous battle with lung cancer.

Mass of Christian burial will be 11 a.m. on Tuesday, March 2, at the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity. Burial will follow in the New Ulm Catholic Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 9 to 11 a.m. on Tuesday, March 2, at the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity.

Social distancing guidelines must be practiced, and masks must be worn by all guests in attendance.

The Minnesota Valley Funeral Homes of New Ulm are assisting the family with arrangements.

Darwin is survived by his wife, Theresa Hohenstein; children, Steve (Cari) Hohenstein of Dassel, Sheri (Joe) Green of Mankato; grandchildren, Matthew (Jessica) Hohenstein, Johnathan (Amy) Hohenstein, Alycia (Brett) Tidrick, Evan Green, Alex Green, Ashley Green; 5 great-grandchildren; siblings, Karen (Wally) Fritze, Mary Sue (Bruce) Stanke, Ken (Sherry) Hohenstein, Rick (LeeAnn) Hohenstein; sister-in-law Joanne Hohenstein; and many other relatives and friends.

Darwin was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Bill Hohenstein and John Hohenstein.

Darwin Edward Hohenstein was born Oct. 13, 1939, in Madelia to Marvin and Kathleen (Keogan) Hohenstein. After graduating from Saint Peter High School, he served in the United States Army. Darwin was united in marriage to Theresa (Hillesheim) on Jan. 12, 1963 in Wabasso. They were blessed with two wonderful children they raised in New Ulm. Doc worked at 3M for 33 years. He lived to fish and spend time at the lake, a passion he passed on to his family. He was happiest when he was spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He will be dearly missed by all that knew and loved him, blessed be his memory.
