Thomas J. Wellner

NEW ULM — Thomas J. Wellner, age 78, passed away on Sunday, January 3, 2021 at Orchard Hills Living Center in New Ulm.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Thursday, January 7, 2021 at St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in New Ulm. Pastor Timothy Smith will officiate. Burial will follow in the Lutheran Cemetery in New Ulm.

Visitation will be from 9:30-11 a.m. Thursday, January 7, 2021 at St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in New Ulm.

All guests in attendance are required to wear masks and follow social distancing guidelines.

Thomas is survived by his sister, June Milbrett of rural New Ulm; brothers, James Wellner of rural New Ulm, Terry Wellner of New Ulm; niece, Susie (Joey) Helget of Lafayette; nephews, Chuck (Kathy) Milbrett of St. James, Dennis (Audrey) Milbrett of rural New Ulm; and many great nieces, great nephews, and extended family.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Alton and Martha Wellner; brother-in-law, Fred Milbrett; and nephew, Richard Milbrett.

Thomas Joseph Wellner was born March 16, 1942 to Alton and Martha (Frank) Wellner in New Ulm. He graduated from New Ulm Public High School in 1960 and enlisted in the National Guard. After his service, he started a lifelong career as a farmer. As a young man, Tom enjoyed competing in FFA, specifically with Holsteins. He also loved his cats, who were like his kids, and he loved spending time with all his family. Tom will be dearly missed by those that knew him. Blessed be his memory.
