Sylvester Domeier

Sylvester Domeier, 95, of New Ulm died Wednesday, December 2, 2020 at the New Ulm Medical Center in New Ulm.

A private family service will be held Monday, December 7, 2020 at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home North Chapel in New Ulm with Father Gerald Maidl officiating. Burial will follow in the New Ulm Catholic Cemetery.

Sylvester is survived by his wife Theresa Domeier of New Ulm; daughters, Monica (Myron) Hillesheim of New Ulm, Rita (Ron) Geiger of Sleepy Eye, Judy Murphy of New Ulm and Eileen (Duane) Kral of New Ulm; sons, Mike (Jane) Domeier of New Ulm, Charles (Sue) Domeier of Hanska and Jerry Domeier of Eden Prairie; 17 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Martha (Arnold) Sellner, Frieda (Ray) Holm, Louise (George) Bauer, Peggy (Jerry) Meyer and Rose Domeier in infancy; and by his brothers, Herbert (Loretta) Domeier, Meinrad (Adeline) Domeier and Benjamin (Irene) Domeier.

Sylvester Joseph Domeier was born January 1, 1925 in Milford Township, Brown County to Andrew and Anna (Bruckbauer) Domeier. He attended District #15 School in Milford Township. Sylvester served in the U.S. Army from 1945 to 1946 in Japan. He was united in marriage to Theresa Stueber on May 1, 1951 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in New Ulm. After marriage they farmed in Sigel Township and together they raised their seven children. They retired in 1996 and moved to New Ulm in 2008.

Sylvester was a member of the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity, St. Joseph’s – St. Elizabeth’s Catholic United and a past board member of District #10 School Board and the Sigel Creamery Board.
