Leo J. Sturm

NEW ULM — Leo J. Sturm, age 87, passed away on Saturday, November 28, 2020 at Woodstone Senior Living in New Ulm.

A private family Mass will be held at the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity in New Ulm. Burial will follow in the Catholic Cemetery.

Leo is survived by his daughter, Kathy Gentz of New Ulm; sons, Lee (Jane) Sturm of New Ulm, Randy Sturm of New Ulm; five grandchildren; ten great grandchildren; sisters, Elaine Stueber of Sleepy Eye, Jean Wech of Sleepy Eye; brother, Roger Sturm of New Ulm; and many nieces, nephews, and extended family.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Mary Ann Sturm; sister, Beatrice Sturm; and brothers, George Sturm, John Sturm Jr., and Paul Sturm.

Leo J. Sturm was born March 28, 1933 to John Sr. and Gretchen (Metzen) Sturm in New Ulm. He graduated from New Ulm Public High School and enlisted in the United States Army. After his service, he began his career at the Brown County Highway Department, primarily working as a surveyor. Leo also spent time working as a bartender at George’s Ballroom.

Leo was united in marriage to Mary Ann Roiger on June 5, 1956 in New Ulm. Their union was blessed with three children. When Leo was not working, he loved watching sports, especially softball, baseball, and football. He also enjoyed polka music, going to rummage sales, and taking the kids out fishing for bullheads. Leo was a member of the Legion, VFW, and Cathedral of the Holy Trinity. He will be dearly missed by those that knew him. Blessed be his memory.
