On December 15, 1956, Agnes married her high school sweetheart Alfred George Bode at Peace Lutheran Church in Echo. Agnes and Al were blessed with a daughter, Mary Susan. During their marriage, Agnes and Al traveled extensively. They shared an interest in Early American and Civil War history, so many of their travels were along the eastern seaboard and through the southern States. Agnes also enjoyed reading and flower gardening.

After Al’s death in 2001, Agnes moved to New Ulm. She continued to travel, taking many family vacations with Mary, Tim, Claire, and Nate. She also began traveling with organized tour groups, and enjoyed many international trips.
