Joyce loved spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Having been an in-home daycare provider for over 25 years there was always a little one on her lap or being rocked to sleep.

She loved to travel with Alaska and Germany being some of her favorite places. Speaking German, she and Marvin were a host family to many German band members here for Heritagefest over the years. She loved polka music and concertina.

She had a passion for cooking, baking and canning, her canned pickles and homemade baked buns were always a request at special occasions and she loved to put together German specialties like sauerkraut and dumplings or German potato salad. Everyone always requested her recipes.

Most often Joyce could be found embroidering (making dish towels or baby blankets) or playing cards. She never turned down a card game, loving sheephead and 500. Joyce always had time for you and you were always welcome. She and Marvin received the KNUJ Good Neighbor award in 2004 which was a testament to her compassion, generosity and caring for others. She will be missed by all who were fortunate to know her.
