Darlene Ann Harris

Darlene Ann Harris, 81, of Courtland passed away on May 27, 2020 at the New Ulm Medical Center. Due to social constraints, a graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, June 13, 2020 at the East Sveadahl Lutheran Cemetery, St. James, MN with Pastor Grant Bode officiating.

Darlene was born August 29, 1938, in LaSalle, MN to Axel and Anna (Berggren) Thulien. She was the youngest of 13 children. Darlene graduated from St James Public High School in 1956. She was united in marriage to Duane Harris on June 30, 1957, in St James. They celebrated their 62nd anniversary in 2019.

Darlene enjoyed homelife including baking cookies with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, gardening & canning, and trying new recipes and sharing them with her family. She enjoyed family gatherings and had a way making everyone feel at home. In her spare time, she enjoyed both jigsaw and cross-word puzzles, reading, & feeding the birds. She had a special place in her heart for animals, and pets were always considered members of the family. She was an avid Minnesota Twins fan and rarely missed a game. She was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church in New Ulm. Darlene battled Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma for the last four plus years, while her body weakened, her faith remained strong and her attitude remained positive.

Darlene is the cherished wife of Duane and loving mother to Doug (Paula) Harris, David (Resa) Harris, Debra (Terry) Schmit, Darren Harris & his special friend, Amy. She & Duane were blessed with 9 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. In addition to her family, she is survived by her brother Robert Thulien, sisters-in-law, Gloria Thulien, Nona Selbrade, Arla (Lonny) Ellis, brother-in-law, Jerry Harris and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and 11 siblings.

Darlene was selfless and will be remembered as a kind and caring person by all those who knew her.
