Naomi Marie Marxhausen was born on April 12, 1930 in Waltham, MN to Ernst & Aurelia (Schaefer) Marxhausen. She was baptized on April 21 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Waltham MN, by her father. The family moved to Courtland and she attended Christian day school in Courtland and was confirmed on April 2, 1944, also by her father. She graduated from DMLC and Concordia in St. Paul through correspondence course. She taught parochial school at St James Lutheran School in Northrup, MN, Good Shepherd Lutheran School in Inglewood, CA and Redeemer Lutheran School in Southgate, CA. Upon returning to Minnesota she married Ormund Bode and raised five children. She was a hardworking, devoted farm wife. After Ormund’s death in 1964, she married Lewis Budahn in 1969 and gained four stepchildren. She was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church and along with raising her children in the Christian faith, she taught VBS every summer and was a substitute teacher at Immanuel Lutheran School. She was a member of the Ladies Aid and Dorcas Society at church, lead a weekly women’s bible study in her home and sang in the ladies choir. She was the first woman to sit on the Board of Education at Nicollet Public School in 1968. She traveled to California and joined a group of “Petal Pushers”, making the Lutheran Hour Float for the Rose Bowl Parade and also attended the Rose Bowl.
She was a volunteer driver for Nicollet County and in later years, was an active member of the Senior Citizens, the Red Hat Society of Courtland, and made weekly visits to her friends and relatives in the nursing home or assisted living. She loved to sew and quilt and taught her neighbors and children the art of quilting. She was a fan of the Vikings, Twins, Timberwolves and Lynx, and on her final days she watched Classic Twins games. She was a bowler most of her life and finally hung up her bowling shoes at age 85. She lived on the farm for 62 years and moved to Oak Terrace in North Mankato December 2018 and enjoyed her time while there. A special thank you to the loving Oak Terrace staff and Mayo Hospice. She was quick-witted, loved to laugh, and will be forever missed.
